As Hurricane Florence nears the southeastern United States, ABC News is reporting that President Trump has called his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria an “incredible unsung success.”
“I think Puerto Rico was incredibly successful. Puerto Rico was actually our toughest one of all because it is an island,” Trump said. “I actually think it is one of the best jobs that’s ever been done with respect to what this is all about,” he added.
Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) responded quickly and forcefully to the President’s statement, saying that “[t]he President’s remarks are not only tone deaf, but a moral affront to the 2,975 of our fellow citizens who we now know lost their lives to Hurricane Maria.”
“The President should apologize,” said Velázquez.
